Since the invention of the aircraft they have played a major part in nations’ defence, both in times of peace and war. Over the years there have many airfields based in Cornwall, with many different squadrons and aeroplanes represented.

RAF Bude – The aircraft from here flew coastal patrols between St George’s Channel and The Bristol Channel, a role which continued until the end of WW1. The site closed in 1919.
